The Saga of the “Car shaped Cycle Rack”

The Saga of the “Car shaped Cycle Rack”

car-bike-rack-2On the 28th November 2013 Ely Cycling Campaign contacted East Cambs. District Council to ask permission to site the County owned Car Shaped Cycle Rack in the Paradise Car Park outside where the “temporary” Post Office had been put up.Tracey Harding at East Cambs. informed us that the area was now under the control of the Post Office, So she would contact them.

Whilst waiting for the legal depts. of the Post office and ECDC to sort out approval, discussion ensued with Patrick Joyce (County Cycling officer) on the exact location of the Cycle rack, how it was to be transported, and possible liability in case of damage to the Rack or someone using it.

On December 6th 2013 Tracey said she was still waiting upon the the legal dept. for permission, as the liability was accepted by the County Council.

On February 11th 2014 ECDC finally sent a legal agreement to County and Patrick reported that once signed delivery would be arranged. In March he reported that the paperwork was complete.

It was not until Thursday 1st may that arrangements for the transport were complete and the Cycle Rack arrived in Ely.

Our thanks go to Patrick Joyce and Tracey Harding persevering in spite of much Red Tape. Things arrive eventually to those who are patient!
