Ely Cycling Club runs weekly bike rides starting at the Paradise Centre every Sunday at 9am. Anyone is welcome to give it a try – no need to book, just turn up on the day or drop them a quick note on their Facebook page if you have any questions.
The rides are between 40 and 60 miles and the speed is decided on the day – usually around 15-17mph and nobody gets left behind. If there is a large turnout the group might split into groups for faster and slower riders.
One of the rides I took part in had a turnout of 18 people of all ages and abilities. It was a longer ride from Ely to Cottenham and Histon, then along the Guided Busway to St Ives and on to the cafe stop near Somersham. At this point I split off with a faster group and we went on to Chatteris and back to Ely via Sutton. We got back to Ely just before 1pm having cycled nearly 60 miles. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and we had a few puncture related stops on the way with everyone helping out.
Details of my ride are here: http://app.strava.com/rides/20561363
It’s all very informal and you can drop out at any point. So give it a try!
